Ethical Guidelines

 

1 Publication Ethics Statement

The editorial board of GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING FOR PETROLEUM worked out this publication ethics guidance of GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING FOR PETROLEUM based on its actual situation and demands, while referring publication ethics made by COPE, so as to enhance the professional ethics for authors, reviewers and editors, improve the quality of publications, and prevent overlap of text or plagiarism.

1.1 Publication Ethics for Authors

1)     The manuscript should not be submitted to more than one journal for simultaneous consideration; publications are not allowed to be published repeatedly.

2)     See to it that the manuscript must be the original work without academic dishonorable behavior such as plagiarism, plagiary or data falsification, etc. The contents of the manuscript do not contain confidential information.

3)     The content of the manuscript is scientific and accurate; the author takes sole responsibility for his views.

4)     All named authors meet the journal’s requirements for authorship; do not add or remove authors at will.

5)     Objectively assess the research results of other people, and make proper quoting in the manuscript.

6)     Include fund information relevant to the study; do not include any fund information irrelevant to the study.

7)     Respect the advices of the reviewers; in case of any objection, appeal to the editorial board.

1.2 Publication Ethics for Reviewers

1)     Review the manuscript within time limit and give specific comments; in case of failure to finish review on time for some reason, timely inform the editorial board.

2)     Make a fair, honest, and unbiased assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript, and refrain from making unfair negative, demeaning or offensive comments or including unjustified criticisms.

3)     Respect the author’s research results and keep the manuscripts confidential; do not use or reveal the author’s research results without permission.

4)     If you find any potential competing or conflicting interests with the author or the organization, you should not agree to review the manuscript.

1.3 Publication Ethics for Editors

1)     Timely register the manuscript, submit the manuscript to reviewers, edit the manuscript and publish the manuscript, and make sure every manuscript is fairly dealt with.

2)     In editing and publishing the manuscript, attention should be paid to publishing norms.

3)     Respect the author’s research results and keep the manuscripts confidential; do not use or reveal the author’s research results without permission.

4)     Respect the advices of the reviewers; in case of any objection, the author may submit an appeal.

5)     Encourage open and frank discussion and debate that underpin the pursuit of knowledge inherent in research and academic work.

6)     Adopt Double-blind Review; keep confidential the personal information of the author and the reviewer.

7)     If you find any potential competing, or conflicting interests with the author or the ORGANIZATION, you should not agree to involve in the edition of the manuscript.

 

2 Peer Review Rules

Peer review is an important part of publishing articles in an academic journal. Review of the papers by peer experts enables the Editorial Board to decide whether to adopt the article, so as to ensure the academic quality of the journal. The Editorial Board of GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING FOR PETROLEUM implements a three-stage review system, i.e. initial review by the editor, review by peer experts, and final review by the editor-in-chief (editorial committee). Before the article is submitted for review, relevant information such as the author's name, employer, fund sponsorship, acknowledgement  will be deleted, so that all review procedures are covered by double blind review which is detailed as follows:

2.1 Initial review by editor

The article will be initially reviewed with respect to the topic selection and academic level. Articles that meet the requirements of this journal will be subject to expert review process and those fail will be rejected.

2.2 Peer review

The paper will be initially reviewed with respect to the content details like originality, academic level and preciseness by 2-3 peer experts who will then comment the article for the author's reference.

2.3 Final review by the editor-in-chief (editorial committee)

The editor-in-chief decides to adopt the article or reject it for revision and re-review based on peer review opinions. Controversial articles will be submitted to the editorial committee for discussion and a final review conclusion based on the specific review opinions.

 

3Identification and Treatment of Academic Misconduct

In order to strengthen the construction of academic ethics standards for scientific journals, promote scientific research integrity, protect the rights and interests of authors and readers, and maintain the quality and reputation of this journal, GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING FOR PETROLEUM will strictly test all submitted papers in accordance with the editorial publishing process. The specific testing and identification process and treatment methods are as follows:

3.1 The procedure for the identification of academic misconduct

This journal adopts CNKI 'Science and Technology Periodical Academic Misconduct Document Detection System' and related search engine system to detect the papers, and actively pays attention to the clues provided in the peer review, and compares the 'Chinese Academic Literature Network Publishing Library' with the full text. The database examines whether the paper has plagiarism and plagiarism, forgery, falsification, improper signature, and multiple scholarships in various aspects of editing and publishing. The editorial department will invite the experts or editorial committees of relevant research fields to examine and identify the papers with high check-up rate through systematic examination in a prudent manner.

3.2 The scope of the paper to be tested

1) All submitted papers, ready to be hired and accepted papers;

2) Papers reported to be suspected of academic misconduct.

3.3 The standard of identification of academic misconduct

The paper was checked and re-examined by CNKI “Science and Technology Journal Academic Misconduct Document Detection System”. If the check rate is 8% or more, the editorial department will submit the paper and the comparative paper to the reviewer or the editorial committee to confirm the nature and form of the paper, and make the identification and treatment of the paper and the comparison paper.

The criteria for identifying academic misconduct are as follows:

1)     The content of the paper is intact or the original results are copied intact;

2)     In the content of the paper, change the type of the results of others and treat the results of others as the results of their own independent completion; or do not change the type of results but use the copyrighted components of the results and change the specific manifestations of the results, and Treat the results of others as the results of their own independent completion;

3)     Citing other people's protected opinions, plans, materials, data, etc., without specifying or listing the corresponding references;

4)     Same as the main content of the paper that the author or others have published or published electronically on the Internet, only to make some formal changes, and the substantive research is insufficient;

5)     Fabricating or tampering with research results, survey data, experimental data or literature materials in the paper;

6)     Submit the same article to both the journal and other publications;

7)     The author's signature and ranking, the author unit marked the existence of disputes.

3.4 The treatment of academic papers identified as academic misconduct

1)     This journal will treat the papers that are ultimately identified as academic misconduct in a prudent manner, notify the author in a timely manner, and allow the author to explain and defend the issue before making a decision.

2)     If the paper has not been accepted, the editorial department will immediately terminate the processing process, make the rejection and give the author a critical education.

3)     If the paper is in the process of being hired but not officially published, the editorial department will make the rejection and cancel the qualification of the applicant, and at the same time give the author an archive and warning.

4)     If the paper has been officially published, the editorial department will officially revoke the announcement of the paper on the paper version, the website of the journal, and notify the cooperation database to delete the online version and terminate the dissemination of the paper; in this event, the author's unit is notified. The author is required to refund the manuscript fee for this paper, and publicly apologize to the journal, the infringer or the unit, and all readers for the infringement and adverse effects of the paper on the paper version, and assume corresponding responsibilities. The editorial department reserves the right to continue to recover compensation if it causes reputation or other losses to the journal.

5)     The papers written by the authors of the papers with the plagiarism of plagiarism and plagiarism, which are the first author or the author of the communication, will not be accepted in the next three years.

3.5 The author's objection processing

If the author of the paper disagrees with the identification and processing results of this journal, he may submit a written application review to the journal within 10 working days from the date of receipt of the notice (the journal will not be accepted after the deadline), and the editorial department is responsible for inviting experts to the paper will be reviewed, the final processing opinion will be made, and the author of the review will be notified within 30 working days.

 

4 Paper Withdrawal Rule

The Editorial Board of the GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING FOR PETROLEUM hereby makes the following regulations on the withdrawal of contributions by the Author and the Editorial Board as the case may be:

4.1 Author's voluntary withdrawal

1)     In case the Author asks for withdrawal of contribution out of personal reasons after successful submission through the online contribution system, he/she shall make an explanation to the Editorial Board.

2)     Authors who ask for withdrawal of their contributions that have been reviewed and accepted must fill out the Author's Application for Withdrawal.  

3)     Authors who ask for withdrawal of their contributions that have been delivered to editing and typesetting due to their own reasons shall compensate the Editorial Board for the expenses incurred in review, editing and typesetting in addition to the detailed Author's Application for Withdrawal.

4)     In case the author has withdrawn contribution due to his/her own reasons for 2 times, the Editorial Board will refuse to receive the manuscripts in which he/she is named as the first author or corresponding author within a year.

4.2 Withdrawal by Editorial Board

1)     In case the Editorial Board finds that the manuscript that has been accepted involves academic misconduct, it will communicate with the author and submit the relevant materials to the editorial committee to make a decision on withdrawal.

2)     If the manuscript has not been published officially, the Editorial Board will withdraw it and fill out the Notes for Withdrawal by Editorial Board.

3)     If the manuscript has been published officially, the Editorial Board will publish a Withdrawal Declaration on the website of the GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING FOR PETROLEUM and the latest journal, and send the Withdrawal Declaration to the relevant database collection agencies to withdraw all the data and information of the manuscript in question.

4)     For the authors and corresponding authors who have committed academic misconduct in their contributions, the Editorial Board will refuse to receive the contributions in which they are listed as authors within three years.

 

 5 Author's Commitments & Copyright Transfer Agreement  

If the Article is published in GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING FOR PETROLEUM, the Author agrees with the automatic transfer of the copyright of this Article to the Editorial Board, including the rights of electronic publishing, multimedia publishing, online publishing, publishing of English edition and other forms of publishing, and agrees to be included in domestic and foreign search publications or databases. No part of the Article may be reproduced in any form without the consent of the Editorial Board.
