Abstract: During fifties and sixties, it was the most flourishing period of conducting oil reconnaissance survey widely in Songliao Basin, which is taken as the "1st Round" of the survey. In this period, the integrated geophysical prospecting technique was playing a vanguard role. As a result, the crude oil of commercial value was, for the 1st time, discovered on the local structures based on the geophysical information available. It opened up a new prospect for developing the Daqing Oilfield. Meanwhile, petroleum of commercial value was successfully detected slso on thestructure named Fuyu No. 3 located in the south (the 2nd Songhua River southwards) of Songliao Basin so that it has created favourable conditions for developing the Fuyu Oilfield in S.-Yangtze River.The paper focuses its presentation on the progress being made in oil reconnaissance survey conducted in southern Songliao Basin. Also, the posisive results achieved, assessment and long-range oil bearing prospe-ctives of Songliao Basin are made and recounted as well.
