Abstract: The main reservoir space is the channel sand of Pendlaizhen Formation in the depression of west Sichuan. Fast and accurate identification of the channel sand becomes the key to increase the percentage of drill success and decrease investment risk. However, conventional methods fail to identify the sand body because the thickness and volume of the sand body is small, and changes fast laterally. Based on an analysis of the sedimentary characteristics of the channel sand, this paper establishes a geophysical response pattern, and uses the advanced 3-D visualization method to identify the channel sand. Desired results have been achieved by applying the method to real data.The method could be used in the study of terrestrial formations.
